Girl Scout Troop 6021 hopes to raise funds for a summer trip of a lifetime to Europe and wants to do so by meeting your holiday wrapping needs.
Troop 6021 will first offer its wrapping services from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday at the Baytown Farmers Market at Town Square, 213 Texas Avenue.
The troop will wrap the first package for a minimum donation of $3 and each additional package for a minimum donation of $1.
To further offset the cost, Troop 6021 will have five more wrapping events on these dates:
• Nov. 30, 11-3 p.m. at Walmart on Garth
• Dec. 7, 11-3 p.m. at San Jacinto Mall
• Dec. 14, 11 – 3 p.m. at San Jacinto Mall
• Dec. 15, 11-3 p.m. at Food Town at N. Main St. and Rollingbrook
• Dec. 21, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at Walmart on Garth
When the troop makes the trip in June, they will visit Ireland, England, Wales and Paris.
“For many of the girls (and parents), this will be their first international trip,” Julie Fallin said. “The ability to see our amazing world, view pieces of history that are much older than anywhere in the United States, visit Paxton Lodge in London (a Girl Scout facility)…. these are things that are truly amazing.”
Since December 2018, Troop 6021 has worked hard and held various fundraisers to help fund this trip.
In addition to experience, the girls will earn high school credit for global connections coursework, according to EF Educational Tours.
The educational value is described as giving student travelers an opportunity to examine the personal, national and international implications of global independence.
Currently, 14 girls and nine adults have signed up to go on the trip, which will cost each girl about $4,370.
“So, while it would be amazing to raise this much, we are aware that it isn’t possible,” Fallin said. “They have had various fundraisers over the last year trying to offset their costs. Also, the majority of the money raised on cookies sales this spring will be credited to the girls for the trip.”
