A Victorian woman has been left baffled after her electricity company threatened to cut off her power after she didn’t pay a $0 ‘late fee’.
Radio station 3AW reported that ‘Annie’ received the bill from Energy Australia, which threatened to get debt collectors involved if she didn’t ‘pay’.
“Recently, we arranged a payment extension for your electricity account. You were required to pay $0.00 but we have not yet received this payment from you,” the October 30 letter read.
“You were required to pay $0.00 on (sic) but we have not yet received this payment from you.
“As you have missed your latest payment we have cancelled your extension. Your account is now in our standard collection process which may result in disconnection if the full outstanding amount is not repaid.”
The woman said she hoped the letter was sent accidentally.
