Demolition man Rohit Sharma scored his second ton of the match as India set a 395-run target against South Africa on Day 4 of the Vizag Test. Ravindra Jadeja then provided an early breakthrough, removing Dean Elgar for 2 as Proteas were at 11/1 at stumps. After taking a 71-run lead, Rohit and Cheteshwar Pujara batted beautifully in the first and second session after Mayank Agarwal’s early departure. Rohit continued his fine form as he slammed his second ton of the match, becoming the only batsman to score two hundreds in the debut Test as opener. Pujara (81) also played a good hand as the duo added 169 runs. Chasing quick runs in the final session, Ravindra Jadeja — who was promoted to No.4 — slammed a quick-fire 40. Virat Kohli (31*) and Ajinkya Rahane (27*) also added crucial runs towards the end. Aiden Markram and Theunis de Bruyn were unbeaten at the crease when bad light forced umpires to end the proceedings on Day 4.

60.4 over: FOUR! A six followed by a four. This time Virat Kohli hits Keshav Maharaj through covers. The ball beats the deep fielder and goes to the fence. 13 runs already from the first four balls. IND 267/3

Both Rohit Sharma and Cheteshwar Pujara are back in the middle to start the final session of the day for India. Vernon Philander has the ball in his hands. A slip in place for him.

Rohit Sharma and Cheteshwar Pujara stitched a terrific 154-run partnership as India stretched their lead to 246 against South Africa in the second session on Day 4 of the Vizag Test. India were 175/1 with Rohit and Pujara unbeaten on 84 and 75 respectively when umpires decided to go for the tea break. Resuming the post lunch session 35/1, the duo put their foot on the accelerator, scoring at a brisk pace. Rohit looked sublime as he struck the ball cleanly all around to get to his 11th fifty in Tests. Pujara, on the other hand, had luck by his side as he got a couple of reprieves on way to his 21st fifty. For South Africa, it was a disappointing session as they remained wicketless and leaked runs.

Does well to get there but hits the cushion wit his left boot in the first attempt before completing the catch in the second. SIX is given eventually as Dane Piedt finds himself unlucky. Ravichandran Ashwin picked 7/145 as India bundled out South Africa for 431 in their first innings, one hour into the morning session on Day 4 in Vizag. Resuming on 385/8, the tailenders added crucial 46 runs, helping South Africa reduce their deficit to 76. India were 35/1 at lunch, losing their first-innings double centurion Mayank Agarwal cheaply for 7. Beginning the day, Ashwin claimed his sixth wicket in the form of Keshav Maharaj. But then, Senuran Muthusamy and Kagiso Rabada added 35 runs for the last wicket to frustrate India. Ashwin eventually got rid off Rabada, ending South Africa’s fight in the first innings. Cheteshwar Pujara (2*) and Rohit Sharma (25*) were unbeaten at the crease at lunch as India took their overall lead to 106.

128.5 overs: FOUR! FOUR! Consecutive boundaries for Kagiso Rabada off Ravi Ashwin. Gets two fours on either sides in front of the wicket behind the bowler. Both Rabada and Muthusamy getting some crucial runs here for South Africa. Rabada has quickly moved on to 14 off 13 balls. South Africa now trail by just 76 runs.

128.1 overs: LBW review from India as original decision from umpire is not out. Ashwin traps Kagiso Rabada in front but is not sure on the height. Virat Kohli goes for the review. Ball tracking shows that the ball was just clipping the top of leg. It’s umpires call and Rabada remains not out.

Pitch report, Day 4: “We will have a lot more wickets today as the cracks have opened up. There are a few spots which will cause the batsmen some worry, what you should try to do is to get the batsman committed on the front foot. You gotta mix the lengths on this surface and getting the batsman to try and drive is what the spinners should look to do. India might be looking to post South Africa a target of 300,” said Sunil Gavaskar and Murali Kartik.

On Friday, Dean Elgar and Quinton de Kock hit centuries to help South Africa fight back, as the tourists reached 385/eight in response to India’s first-innings total of 502/7 declared.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock made 111 and put on a key 164-run stand with Elgar, who scored 160, to thwart the Indian bowling attack.
Off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, though, kept chipping away to claim his 27th five-wicket haul (5/128) and first since August 2017 in 66 Tests.
At stumps, the Proteas trailed India by 117 runs, with debutant Senuran Muthusamy (12*) and Keshav Maharaj (3*), at the crease.
