Friends and family of an Australian tourist murdered in a remote region of Canada are gathering to say their goodbyes at a memorial service in Sydney.
Lucas Fowler, the son of a senior NSW Police officer, and his American girlfriend, Chynna Deese, were shot dead more than two weeks ago on a British Columbia highway.
Another man, botanist Leonard Dyck, was also murdered in the area.
The manhunt for their suspected killers – 18-year-old Kam McLeod and 19-year-old Bryer Schmegelsky – has been scaled back after the Royal Canadian Mounted Police spent eight days searching the town of Gillam and surrounding wilderness in central Canada.
The Sydney memorial service for Lucas Fowler, 23, will be held at the Turramurra Uniting Church before midday on Friday.
Ms Deese, 24, was farewelled by loved ones at a service at New City Church in Charlotte, North Carolina, a few days ago.
The couple met at a hostel in Croatia two years ago and were on a road trip across Canada when they were murdered.
Fowler’s family said after his July 15 death they’d lost a dear son, brother, grandson and friend in the “most terrible of circumstances”.
